The Newest trends in obesity research on Aromatic Herbal Medicine and Essential oils

Abstract
Objective : This study was aimed to suggest direction for future research and development of aromatic anti-obese materials through analysis of obesity research trends on aromatic herbal medicine and essential oils in published Korean and abroad articles.

Method : We searched for the papers on the ¡®Google scholar (https://schÀÌar.google.co.kr)¡¯, then filtered using keywords, 'appetite', 'olfactory', 'obesity', 'essential oil', 'medicinal herbs', ¡®aroma¡¯ in reported articles for recent 10 years from 2012 to 2021. Among them, we reviewed 10 overseas articles and 2 in Korean that we thought were relevant.

Result and Conclusion : As a results of analyzing the trend of anti-obesity research based on the effects of aromatic plants on the olfactory system, more studies has been conducted abroad than in Korea, and studies has been mainly active. Also, studies of aromatic plant extracts and essential oils has also been studied at the same level. Therefore, it is suggested that the functional extracts and essential oils from various aromatic plants could be a potential anti-obesity treatments with no side effects. This review aimed to provide basic data for the development of obesity treatment by examining anti-obesity research papers on domestic and foreign aromatic plant extracts or essential oils for the past 10 years and classifying research trends.
